ISA/IEC 62443
ISA/IEC 62443 is the international series of standards for the security of industrial automation and control systems. It defines zones and conduits for segmenting a plant, security levels (SL 0 to 4) for how much protection each zone needs, and seven foundational requirements that controls are measured against.
The series is organized in four groups: general concepts, policies and procedures for asset owners and service providers, system-level requirements including the zone and conduit model, and component-level requirements for product suppliers. Asset owners mostly work with the system-level parts.
The seven foundational requirements are identification and authentication control, use control, system integrity, data confidentiality, restricted data flow, timely response to events, and resource availability. A security level target is set per zone, and the assessment measures the achieved level against it.
Why it matters in cement, mining, and aggregates
Cement and mining operators rarely need certification, but insurers, auditors, and corporate security teams increasingly ask for 62443 alignment. Potenza maps every assessment finding and baseline control to a zone, a conduit, and a security level so those questions have a reference.
