What is specific to cement
Monitor by production area, and never touch the loop.
Cement control loops run continuously for months between kiln outages. Monitoring has to be invisible to them, useful to the people on shift, and organized around the same production areas the plant already thinks in.

- Traffic is observed from mirror ports on the switches serving each area: raw mill, kiln and cooler, finish mill, packing. That placement gives per-area baselines, so a new talker in the kiln zone is an alert while the same event in packing might just be a new printer.
- Tuned to the industrial protocols cement actually runs
- EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus dominate cement plant floors, with legacy fieldbus bridged in. Detection is tuned to the behavior of those protocols between known controllers and HMIs, rather than to generic TCP volume.

- Over a multi-year engagement with a cement operator in the USA (2022–2025), monitoring combined with Purdue-based segmentation and industrial IDS contributed to a 60% reduction in OT-related incidents. Monitoring alone does not produce that number; monitoring inside a governed architecture does.
